GOJO, Makers of PURELL, Marks Earth Day with Progress on Clean Chemistry, Climate Goals in Latest Sustainability Report

Over two-thirds of products sold are now certified by third parties; validation of GOJO’s targets by SBTi

AKRON, Ohio, April 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — GOJO Industries, Inc., the Akron-based, third-generation Family Enterprise, and makers of PURELL® products, released its 2023–2024 Sustainable Value Report today, Earth Day. The report details how GOJO continues to build on its long-standing commitment to creating Sustainable Value — balancing social impact, environmental stewardship, and economic growth, with each element reinforcing the other.

“For more than 75 years, we’ve been making Earth Day a part of our every day. We’ve used science-based innovation to solve real human problems, setting new standards for safety, efficacy, and sustainability,” said Stephanie Schneider, Chief Product Officer. “This report reflects how our GOJO Purpose – Saving Lives and Making Life Better through Well-Being Solutions – comes to life through everyday actions taken across our Enterprise.”

Key highlights from the 2023–2024 report include:

  • Achievement of more than two-thirds of global sales now coming from third-party certified products, including Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold formulations.
  • Reduction of 6.7% in chemicals of concern per thousand doses, building on GOJO’s leadership in ingredient safety and transparency.
  • Launch of the PURELL® ES10 Touch-Free Dispenser; the dispenser uses 30% less plastic and cuts greenhouse gas emissions per refill by 38%* — offering hospitals, schools, workplaces, and other facilities a smarter, more sustainable solution.
  • Validation of GOJO’s science-based climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), including commitments to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050.

As a U.S. manufacturer with a far-reaching impact, GOJO continues to expand local partnerships and reduce environmental impact across its supply chain. The report documents GOJO’s expanding use of closed-loop partnerships with Northeast Ohio businesses, such as Tymex Plastics, which helped the Family Enterprise recycle more than 120,000 pounds of plastic in 2024 alone.

With refined baselines and a clear strategy across four key pillars — Clean Chemistry, Plastics & Circular Design, Flourishing Team GOJO, and Climate Resilience & Responsibility — GOJO is focused on creating measurable, long-term value for all partners and end-users.
