SENATOR SCHUMER BACKS STRIKING BRONX TEAMSTERS AS TALKS RESUME

Teamsters Local 210 Demands Fair Contract with Bargaining Set to Resume

BRONX, N.Y., Sept. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Members of Teamsters Local 210 at Perrigo Company’s Bronx manufacturing facilities will return to bargaining today after more than two weeks on strike with the support of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). The 160 Teamsters were forced to the picket line on September 2 after the employer refused to negotiate over its plans to eliminate workers’ overtime protections and stop making contributions to workers’ established retirement plan.

“I stand with the members of Teamsters Local 210 at Perrigo’s Bronx production facility as they fight to secure fair wages, protect overtime pay and retirement security for themselves and for the younger workers,” Schumer said. “These protections put food on the table and allow working families and our city to flourish. New York City is a union town, and it is not productive to threaten to permanently replace longtime workers. Businesses are most productive when management and workers negotiate in good faith and agree to fair contracts. I urge Perrigo management to return to the negotiating table and bargain in good faith so these hardworking New Yorkers can get back on the job with the wages, benefits, and dignity they’ve earned.”

The striking workers, who manufacture generic over-the-counter creams and ointments for Perrigo, were forced to walk off the job after the company demanded Teamsters accept a substandard agreement.

“Teamsters are grateful for the support of Senator Chuck Schumer,” said Lydia Torres, Vice President of Local 210. “The decision to resume negotiations is a positive step, but only if Perrigo is prepared to move beyond surface bargaining and work with us toward a fair, equitable contract that safeguards our members’ families and strengthens the Bronx community.”

Teamsters will remain on the picket line from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until an agreement is reached.
