Duke Energy Florida wrapping up power restoration following Hurricane Isaias; strategic grid improvements delivered customer benefits
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Hurricane Isaias cleared Florida this morning. Crews have already restored approximately 10,000, leaving about 2,200 customers without power across North Florida. The company anticipates wrapping up restoration this afternoon. Customers can visit Duke Energy’s outage map and receive outage alerts for real time updates on their individual estimated time of restoration.

“The strategic investments we’ve made in a stronger, smarter grid are delivering clear benefits for customers—reducing outages, limiting their duration and helping us restore power faster when severe weather strikes,” said Todd Fountain, Duke Energy Florida storm director. “We know our customers depend on the essential service we provide – safe, reliable power – to plan their lives and get back on their feet after storms like this one. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we wrap up our power restoration today.”
Yesterday, Duke Energy Florida deployed resources from across the state to support power restoration in the impacted area. A favorable storm path allowed our crews to work around-the-clock to assess the damage, make repairs and get the lights back on for customers.
Duke Energy Florida focuses on restoring power for customers as safely and quickly as possible after storms. While many activities occur simultaneously, the typical sequence is as follows:
- Locating and de-energizing downed power lines that pose a risk to the public.
- Addressing issues with transmission infrastructure, substation equipment and main distribution lines that serve large numbers of customers and large geographic areas – and must be restored first to keep electricity flowing.
- Restoring emergency services and critical infrastructure such as hospitals, law enforcement, fire departments and water treatment facilities.
- Repairing distribution lines that serve neighborhoods and individual homes and businesses.
As always, Duke Energy Florida’s top priority is safety. Customers are asked to consider the following when they see crews working in their neighborhoods:
- Consider all power lines energized, as well as trees or limbs in contact with lines, and stay away from lines that have fallen or are sagging. Call Duke Energy at 800.228.8485 or contact your local emergency services department or agency to report all power line hazards.
- Do not drive over or stand near downed power lines. Downed lines will be hard to see in the rain and may be hidden in standing water. If you encounter large pools of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path, as electric current passes easily through water.
- A generator can be very useful during a power outage, but remember to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure proper operation.
- Please turn your generator off when crews are in your area. The electrical load on the power lines can be hazardous as they make repairs.
