Glencore Canada’s Raglan Mine Vice President, Jean-Francois Verret, recognized among Canada’s Clean50 and Clean16 for advancing mining decarbonization
Dual recognition highlights leadership in critical minerals development, lower-carbon energy and partnerships with Inuit communities in Nunavik
MONTREAL, Oct. 15, 2026 /CNW/ — Glencore Canada is proud to announce that Raglan Mine’s efforts to advance responsible critical-mineral development in northern Quebec have received national recognition, with Vice-President Jean‑François Verret receiving a Canada’s Clean50 Award in the Primary Resources category and a Canada’s Clean16 Award as a category leader.

This dual recognition reflects an approach to mining in the Canadian Arctic that brings together long-term economic development, environmental performance and Indigenous economic participation.
Raglan Mine’s 6 MW wind and 3 MW battery system displaced 3.19 million litres of diesel and avoided 8,900 tonnes of GHG emissions in 2025. The $500+ million Sivumut Project, including the Anuri underground mine, which opened in February 2024 ahead of schedule and under budget, which could make it possible to extend operations beyond 2040, supporting Canadian nickel production and more than 1,000 jobs.
“Sustainability is not separate from how we operate our business – it means finding practical ways to reduce our footprint and improve performance, while creating long-term value with our Inuit partners and responsibly producing minerals that Canada and the world need,” said Jean-François Verret, Vice-President, Raglan Mine.
“This recognition also belongs to the many people behind these results: our employees, Inuit partners, communities, suppliers and contractors who continue to find better ways of operating in one of the most challenging environments in the world,” he added.
Sivumut and Raglan Mine’s broader operations have also generated significant economic opportunities in Nunavik. In 2025, 26 per cent of Raglan Mine’s $432 million in procurement spending, more than $112 million, was directed to Inuit businesses. Raglan Mine employed 1,295 people, including 205 Inuit employees, and since 1995, more than $260 million has been distributed to Nunavik Inuit communities through profit-sharing mechanisms, allocations and other agreement-related payments.
“Operating a mine in the Arctic requires reliable and ambitious solutions, and thanks to its leadership, Raglan Mine has commissioned a 6-MW wind farm and a 3-MW battery system that significantly reduce diesel consumption and emissions at the site,” said Gavin Pitchford of Delta Management Group/Clean50.
“Jean François also led the Sivumut and Anuri projects, extending the mine’s operations by more than 20 years, supporting more than 1,000 jobs, and strengthening Canada’s supply of nickel–which is essential to the energy transition,” added Pitchford.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate how critical-mineral development, environmental improvement and Indigenous economic participation can be pursued as part of an integrated operating approach, even in one of Canada’s most remote and challenging environments.
